Goodbye Again

 

I have previously mentioned my last night in Houston proper, but I had one more stop before I left the Lone Star State for good. Instead of leaving my truck sitting idle for a long period of time at my apartment, my parents were generous enough to come down for my last supper (Tex-Mex, duh) and take the General back to Crockett for his own little summer vacation.

As is apt to happen before a flight out of George Bush International Airport, I stayed with my friend Mallory the night before so that she could take me to the airport.  But first I had to finalize some of my packing with a little help from my assistant.

I know you’d love to see your great godmother when I’m in Belgium, Paige, but I’m pretty sure that you’d show up on the x-ray screening

 

She even made time in her busy schedule to ride to the airport with Mal and me:

“NO PICTURES OF THE STARLET WITHOUT HER PERMISSION!!”

 

For some reason I didn’t get a picture with Mallory before I left and the next time I see her she will have had baby numero dos, Pressley!

The Excited Southerner Orders a Meal

 

I had the pleasure of getting to see my dear dear friend, Kelley, this week while she was in town having some lessons. You might remember Kelley from a previous post on my favorite Fall day in Ann Arbor. Basically all we did was eat (gain calories) and laugh (burn calories), so it was a pretty balanced trip for all involved I would say.

The first place we went was actually new to me as well but I have always wanted to go: Mama Ninfa’s!!!!  For those of you who don’t know, Ninfa’s is a Tex-Mex chain here in Texas that is pretty popular, and the original is right here in Houston.   Oh yeah… and it’s also where the fajita was invented.  It’s basically the Mecca of Tex-Mex.

The best part of Kelley coming to Texas was that I got to introduce her to the heaven that is Blue Bell ice cream… or Blue Bell-polooza as we affectionately called it.

Look at all that protein!!!!… in the box of Kashi underneath the icecream.  (What? She needed to sample!)

 

Two unfortunate things, one of which I am secretly okay with:

1. Now I have a freezer full of ice cream!

2. For some reason Kelley and I didn’t get a picture together, so here is another one from our Fall day!

They All Went to Mexico

 

Thought this happened several week ago, I thought it would be important for the historical records to document the first Tex-Mex meal I had upon my arrival back to the home land.  My friend Joie from high school and her husband Chris met me one Sunday after church and my arteries were pulsating with anticipation!

I believe they call this “ambiance,” which I’m pretty sure is a Spanish word anyway

 

I don’t really know why, but whenever I drink Tecate I think of my granddad Roberts, and I’m not sure if he even drinks it.  Maybe he did once and it just stuck?

 

This is considered a healthy option.  You know, because it’s a spinach enchilada
